The Michael Matthew Brown Memorial Scholarship

Who Was Michael Matthew Brown?

Michael Matthew Brown was born on November 6th, 1969. In 1987 he began attending James Madison University as an Accounting Information Systems Major. Michael began to influence the brotherhood of Delta of Sigma Pi in the spring of 1989. He was quickly elected to the position of Vice President for Professional Activities after being initiated. Also during this time, he was diagnosed with cancer.

Michael was the ideal brother. He never let his sickness dampen his spirit or determination to achieve his goals. Throughout the course of his sickness, Michael gave back to the fraternity through leadership and example. He would eventually pass away from the disease but not without achieving a 4.0 and holding the position of Senior Vice President during his final semester with us.

History of the Scholarship

After Michael passed away, the Iota Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi wanted to establish a tribute to his name. His life was not only one worth living, but also a life worth recording in honor. Therefore in the spring of 1992, a scholarship was created. Since that time Delta Sigma Pi, has continued to disburse this scholarship every year to qualifying College of Business students.
